Who we are

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Third party links
Our newsletter is only sent to you if you’ve completed the “double opt-in” method to subscribe and you can easily unsubscribe whenever you want to. This means that we are not associated with spam in any way. Despite this, our newsletter is sometimes filtered as bulk/junk email. To make sure you actually receive our newsletters please add to your trusted list of senders, safe list, contacts or address book. All also known as whitelisting. If you do not see an email from us in your inbox, open your spam/junk folder and look for it there, open it and mark it as “not spam” or “not junk”.
Upon submitting your email address, we’ll send a confirmation email back to the address you submitted. To subscribe to our newsletter, you then need to confirm your subscription. This is called double opt-in, because you have to confirm your desire to subscribe twice, and it makes it impossible to subscribe someone else to the newsletter.
The Cook Lawyers website uses 128 bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption technology which is strong high-level encryption for online purchasing.
Our whole website is secure, you should see a solid padlock in your browser status bar which indicates that the encryption is taking place. You will also see that the Cook Lawyers URL address in the browser has https in front of cooklawyers.co.uk.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
Contact and enquiry data will be retained for 3 years following the date of our last contact or dealing with you, at the end of which period it will be deleted from our systems.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Contact form enquiries are emailed to us direct. When you sign up to a newsletter your data is securely passed to Mailchimp.
Please do not hesitate to email Admin regarding any matter relating to this Privacy & Security Policy.
